Who this service is for

Supervised contact is a child-focused service for families where safety concerns, high conflict or child protection considerations mean that a child's contact with a parent or family member needs to be supported by a neutral professional. It provides a structured, safe environment for children to maintain their parental relationships without being exposed to conflict or risk.

This service may be appropriate where Court Orders require supervised contact, where one parent has concerns about the safety of unsupervised contact, or where a relationship is being gradually rebuilt after a period of limited contact.

Common situations this service supports

Court Orders requiring supervised contact
Safety concerns or history of family conflict
Rebuilding parent-child relationships after a period of limited contact
High-tension situations affecting child wellbeing
Child protection considerations
Transitions and changeover where direct parent contact is difficult
Families where a neutral third party is needed during contact time

How the service works

Supervised contact sessions are conducted by a trained professional in a safe, neutral and child-friendly environment, either in person at a suitable venue or via a supported online format where appropriate. The supervisor's role is to observe and support the contact, not to counsel or mediate between parents during the session.

The service is separate from mediation and from parental coordination. Parents are not required to interact with each other during a supervised contact session. The child's safety, comfort and wellbeing are the primary focus throughout.

What the process looks like

1
Enquiry and assessment

We discuss your situation, the relevant arrangements and whether supervised contact is appropriate. We will ask about any Court Orders or safety concerns that are relevant.

2
Intake and preparation

We speak separately with each parent to explain the process, set expectations and ensure the environment is appropriate for the children involved.

3
Supervised contact sessions

Sessions are conducted in a safe, child-focused environment. The supervisor observes and supports the contact, ensuring the child's wellbeing is maintained throughout.

4
Review and reporting

Progress is reviewed regularly. Where required, written records of sessions can be provided. We can discuss reporting requirements with you at the outset.

Please note: Supervised contact sessions are not confidential in the same way as mediation. Records may be kept and may be provided to relevant parties as agreed at the outset. This service does not provide legal advice. Where Court Orders are in place, please share these with us at the time of enquiry.
