About Us

Helping people move forward

We are a professional mediation service committed to helping families, individuals, businesses and workplaces resolve disputes with clarity, dignity and practical support.

Professional. Neutral. Committed
to practical outcomes.

Alternative Mediations is a professional mediation practice providing confidential, structured dispute resolution services for families, individuals, businesses and workplaces.

We believe that most disputes, given the right environment and the right support, can be worked through, and that people who reach their own agreements are better placed to move forward than those who have an outcome imposed on them.

Our mediators are accredited under AMDRAS, the national accreditation standard for mediators in Australia, and our Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners are registered with the Attorney-General's Department, which is what authorises a section 60I certificate to be issued. We understand that the situations people bring to us are rarely simple, and we approach every case with the attention and respect it deserves.

"Mediation doesn't just resolve disputes. At its best, it restores the conditions for people to move forward, together or separately, but with clarity."

Alternative Mediations

What guides everything we do

These are not just words on a page. They reflect the standards we hold ourselves to in every client interaction and every mediation session.

Neutrality

Our mediators don't have a stake in the outcome. We facilitate fairly, without steering parties toward a particular result, and without favouring one party over another.

Confidentiality

We take privacy seriously. What is shared with us stays with us. The confidentiality of the process is fundamental to its effectiveness, and to the trust people place in us.

Practicality

We keep sessions focused and productive. Our goal is workable outcomes, not open-ended processes. We respect people's time and their need for resolution.

Respect

Every person who comes to us is dealing with something real and often difficult. We treat every client with dignity, care and the kind of attention their situation deserves.

Honesty

We tell people what they need to know, not what they want to hear. If mediation is unlikely to help in a particular situation, we will say so, clearly and kindly.

Quality

Our mediators are professionally trained and committed to continuous development. We hold ourselves to high professional standards in everything we do.

Mediation that feels human

We understand that most people do not arrive at mediation feeling calm. They come with frustration, anxiety and often a great deal of emotional weight. Our job is to create an environment that is calm, structured and safe, so that productive conversation is possible.

We don't rush. We don't pressure. We ask good questions, listen carefully and help people find a way forward that they have had a genuine part in shaping.

The people behind Alternative Mediations

Anthony Lang, CEO of Alternative Mediations

Anthony Lang

Chief Executive Officer

Anthony Lang is Chief Executive Officer of Alternative Mediations. His path here came through education, training, business leadership and dispute resolution, and it shaped a simple view: mediation should be practical and accessible, a real alternative to the cost and delay of the courts.

He has built nationally recognised training initiatives for the next generation of mediators and family dispute resolution practitioners, and works closely with legal professionals, government, community organisations and industry to make mediation a normal first step rather than a last resort. Anthony sets the strategic direction for Alternative Mediations, and keeps the practice focused on what matters most: outcomes that actually help people move forward.
